The Civil Protection Authority has sounded the alarm, as Attiki and Evia are running a high risk of fires. The blazes that broke out early on Tuesday in Karystos and the Ionian island of Zakynthos have been contained. About 20 firefighters, foot patrols and air tankers have been employed to put out the fire burning in Karystos.
Anger over Greek death 'delays'

The family of a teenager killed after an attack in a Greek nightclub say they are growing increasingly frustrated by the investigation into his death.

It is now 10 months since 18-year-old Jonathan Hiles, from Cardiff, was punched and then fell from a stage.

Greek authorities have identified their main suspect, another British tourist.

But the teenager's father says there is still no sign of an European arrest warrant, without which police in the UK are powerless to act.

"The British police say they can't do anything until the Greeks have finished with the case," explained Jonathan's father, Denzil Hiles.

"It's been 10 months. Nobody has told us anything apart from the investigation is ongoing."

Every day I go to the cemetery...it's ruined his girlfriend's life, and both myself and my wife are on medication."

Police on the island of Zakynthos - also known as Zante - identified the main suspect in the case in November from CCTV footage and witness statements.

An arrest warrant has been issued in Greece for the individual, but it only applies within the country's boundaries.

If police in the UK are to act on the issue, a European arrest warrant must be made.

"They know who he is, they have witness statements saying who he is, and I feel it's incredible that the British police can't interview one of their own subjects," added Mr Hiles.

Talented

His son had only just arrived on holiday in Zakynthos when the attack took place.

The student had just completed his studies at Coleg Glan Hafren in Cardiff, and was a top ice and roller hockey player.

As well as being a member of the junior Cardiff Devils ice hockey team, he played roller hockey with both a puck and a ball across three different leagues.

The anniversary of his death is in July, and his father said the whole family remained devastated: "Every day I go to the cemetery. I spend more time there than I do here.

"It's ruined his girlfriend's life, and both myself and my wife are on medication."

"I just want justice for Jonathan."

However, officials have insisted that progress is being made, with the first arrest warrant being made in Greece.

Menya Papadopoulou from the Greek Embassy in London told BBC news: "We understand that the Greek authorities are doing their best to bring this case to justice.

"It is a matter of process."

Last weekend saw the 2nd rally sprint of the year take place on the Island of Zakynthos.
The event started at 17:20 on Saturday at the water park in Ag. Kirikos, where all the necessary safety checks to the vehicles were carried out.
Then at 9pm the official presentation of the all the cars took place in Solomos square, before the actual race on Sunday.
The event started at 10am in the morning in the area of Anafonitria, roads were closed off for the 10,5km course.
The event was in two stages meaning all the cars had to make two runs.
Half way through the first session, a nasty accident took place on one of the turns when a Citroen saxo lost control and overturned before catching fire, fortunately the driver, and co driver were able to get out of the car just in time as the whole car was turned into a fire ball.
In total their were 63 entries from all over Greece cars came from Athens, Crete, Giannena, Axaia, Corinth, etc. I myself attended as a spectator of course, and really enjoyed the day; I thought the whole event was organized very professionally, with safety in mind. A good day was had by all.
